How Parents Can Support GCSE Revision

· 5 min read · Birmingham STEM Vertex Academy

Practical ways to help at home during GCSE year, without adding pressure or taking over.

Parents often ask how to help when they do not know the subject content. Fortunately, the most valuable support has little to do with subject knowledge.

Structure and environment

Agree a realistic weekly routine together, protect a quiet place to work, and keep phones out of the room during study blocks. Predictability reduces the negotiation that drains motivation.

Ask useful questions

Instead of asking whether revision is done, ask what topic was covered and what was difficult about it. Being asked to explain a topic aloud is genuine revision and quickly reveals shaky understanding.

Keep perspective

Sleep, food and breaks are part of preparation, not a distraction from it. Steady effort over months is far more effective than intense work in the final fortnight.
